Glosten and Sydney-based One2three Naval Architects are designing a new research vessel for the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS). Together with Maritime Survey Australia, the team will develop three state-of-the-art mono- and multi-hull concepts to replace the R/V Cape Ferguson, which champions AIMS’ Great Barrier Reef field research program.
Priorities for the design are increased capacity and expanded research capabilities, including a larger working deck, room for more scientists, and the ability of the vessel to act as a multi-technology and sensor platform, coordinating a range of autonomous systems.
The final concept AIMS selects will ultimately support the study of Australian waters and their extraordinary ecosystems.
