AN ICONIC FLEET.

Glosten is acting as owner’s representative on behalf of the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) during the design, construction, and delivery of three Ollis-class ferries for Staten Island Ferry (SIF). The SSG Michael H. Ollis entered service in 2022, following the launches of the Sandy Ground and the Dorothy Day.

Prior to bidding, Glosten helped create a modified contract for NYCDOT that would appeal to potential shipbuilders. We contributed to the contract review and detail design of the vessels, assisted with bid package development and procurement, and reviewed shipyard submittals.

ONSITE OVERSIGHT.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group was awarded construction of the new ferries in 2016. Glosten built a support team comprised of Seattle engineering staff and experienced local inspectors to operate out of Panama City, Florida to continue our support of the project on location at the shipyard. We acted as a designated point of contact for Eastern’s project managers and engineers, observed construction, conducted quality checks, and oversaw testing. Additionally, we worked directly with the Buy America audit consultant who was responsible for pre-award, interim, and post-delivery audits, and developed quarterly reports for submission to the Federal Transit Administration for continued funding.
