The Glosten SA-67 was designed to support general towing and ship assist operations in confined or relatively shallow waterways where the use of larger tugs may not be possible. With 3,000 bhp/40 TBP in a 67-foot envelope, the SA-67 is a bulldog of a tug.
The vessel features an octagonal wheelhouse with full-height glass and upward-facing windows in the visor for unimpeded lines of sight from the control console. The main deck has been thoughtfully arranged to support handling barges alongside, as well as pushing ahead and towing astern. The hull form was developed with a relatively shallow keel and minimal deadrise. This enables the vessel to be “drydocked” on shore in remote areas where shipyard infrastructure may not be available. There are no rolling chocks or other hull appendages, and the Z-drive units were carefully selected to not extend below baseline. These same features also make SA-67 a great choice for ship work in areas where sea ice may be present for part of the year.
